The heart of the space, designed for informal collaboration and connection. Like a coffee shop, it’s a place to brainstorm, exchange ideas, and host small community events.
Break Area
Centrally located to encourage interaction and movement throughout the space. Grab a coffee, connect with others, and discover our “Innovator of the Month” featured on the fridge.
Independent Lab
A leasable, dedicated lab space for a university spinout company that requires more bench space or isolation. Includes a cell culture room and access to common equipment.
Offices
Private offices for lease, each accommodating up to two people. These spaces support startups and university spinouts by providing a dedicated environment separate from academic work.
Prototyping Room
A hands-on creative studio for turning early-stage concepts into something tangible. Stocked with prototyping materials and supported by training sessions, this space is designed primarily for clinical faculty and staff who don't have access to a traditional lab. It's a low-barrier environment to build, test, and iterate quickly.
Tissue Testing Room
A hands-on testing resource for teams working alongside clinical faculty and staff. Equipped with a downdraft table, surgical microscope, and specialized tools, this room is built for rapid iteration — whether you're refining a device concept or figuring out how to train clinicians on a new product or technique.
Fellows Room
A home base for Iowa Innovation Leadership Fellows. Designed for collaboration and creativity, with flexible space for meetings, project work, and content creation. It's equipped with a couch, whiteboards, project lockers, and podcast equipment, and fellows retain access to prototyping and shared equipment throughout their time at Iowa.
Iowa MADE
The home of Iowa MADE, a first-of-its-kind program that manufactures and sells faculty-developed Class 1 medical devices while giving undergraduate students real-world experience in manufacturing, business, and regulatory compliance. In this space, parts are received, inspected, cleaned, assembled, and shipped to fulfill customer orders — all in compliance with FDA regulations, and all operationalized by students.
