Siddhanth Hejmady
Hometown: Mumbai, India
Studies: Ph.D. student, Pharmaceutics
About Siddhanth: Born and raised in Mumbai, India, Siddhanth has always been driven by a curiosity to understand the science behind everyday life. Unlike many children fascinated by the color of leaves or how airplanes fly, Siddhanth's questions revolved around medicine: how a cough syrup knows to target a sore throat or how a pill alleviates pain. This early curiosity led him to pursue a career in pharmacy, where he learned that each drug is a carefully crafted tool designed to produce positive effects in the human body.
Siddhanth's passion for pharmaceutical biotechnology began during his undergraduate studies in Mumbai and grew stronger as he delved into courses like Biochemistry and Microbiology. His academic journey took him to BITS Pilani, India, where he completed his postgraduate studies, specializing in biopharmaceuticals and drug delivery systems. With a solid foundation in pharmaceutical sciences, Siddhanth has been selected to pursue a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutics at the University of Iowa.
Under the guidance of Dr. Nejadnik, Siddhanth is developing a novel method to predict protein self-association and enhance the stability of monoclonal antibodies. His work not only improves the formulation and manufacturability of therapeutic proteins but has also led to a provisional patent and recognition through an NIH grant.
Looking ahead, Siddhanth aspires to be a Biologics Scientist, focusing on advancing formulation strategies to ensure the safety and efficacy of biologics. He is committed to staying at the forefront of scientific innovations through ongoing literature review and implementing innovative strategies in product development, analytical characterization, and process optimization.
Beyond his academic pursuits, Siddhanth enjoys exploring new cuisines, visiting adventure parks, kayaking, watching movies and TV shows, and taking long walks.
