Nicole Weathers
As Nurse Liaison for the Nurse Innovators Program, Nicole Weathers brings twenty years of experience in nursing, leadership, workforce development, and rural health to help nurses turn their ideas into meaningful, real-world solutions. She works alongside nurses across Iowa to explore innovation that improves care, strengthens teams, and meets the changing needs of healthcare systems.
Nicole also leads the Iowa Online Nurse Residency Program, a nationally recognized initiative that supports new graduate nurses as they transition into practice. Under her leadership, the program has expanded to serve hospitals, long-term care, and community-based organizations across the country. Its innovative model for workforce development earned Edge Runner recognition from the American Academy of Nursing, honoring it as a nurse-led solution that addresses critical challenges in healthcare.
Nicole earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice in Health Systems and Leadership from the University of Iowa and is board certified in Nursing Professional Development. Her work focuses on helping nurses feel confident, connected, and capable—so they can lead, innovate, and make a difference wherever they practice. She is especially passionate about creating space for nurses to bring forward ideas that improve care and strengthen the profession.
