Maria Vardapetyan's passion for innovation was shaped by a childhood where resourcefulness was essential. Growing up in post-war Armenia in poverty, she watched her father design practical solutions to everyday challenges, instilling a lifelong belief that creativity and perseverance can overcome even the greatest obstacles. Now a medical student at the University of Iowa, Maria has continued that entrepreneurial spirit by creating opportunities for others. She founded the University of Iowa Medical Innovation Student Network to connect students with innovation resources and previously established organizations that supported aspiring healthcare professionals and advanced women's health initiatives. Her experiences have reinforced the importance of combining leadership, collaboration, and ingenuity to address unmet clinical needs. Looking ahead, Maria hopes to pursue a career in emergency medicine, where she can help develop technologies and systems that improve healthcare in resource-limited and high-acuity settings.
