About Cynthia: Cynthia’s passion for innovation began in pharmacy school when she developed gastro-retentive drug-delivery microballoons using acetylated cocoyam starch, a low-cost, locally sourced material. This experience ignited her commitment to creating affordable, practical solutions that address healthcare challenges in resource-limited settings.

At the University of Iowa, Cynthia leads two independent projects in the Advanced Drug and Gene Delivery Lab, focusing on oral health biosensors and sustainable drug delivery systems. She has presented her work internationally, including pitching at the 2024 World Bank Youth Summit. Cynthia is also a co-inventor on an invention disclosure related to immunostimulatory particles, underscoring her drive to translate research into impactful products.

She aspires to unlock new innovations in drug delivery and diagnostics that improve health outcomes globally. Outside of her academic work, Cynthia enjoys dancing and making new friends.
