Aidan Schlichting's fascination with innovation began with an early curiosity about biology and was strengthened by discovering the transformative potential of gene editing and precision medicine. As a Ph.D. student at the University of Iowa, he studies RNA aptamer biotechnology to develop targeted therapeutic delivery systems for cardiovascular disease, work that reflects his passion for translating fundamental discoveries into next-generation treatments. Throughout his training, Aidan has embraced collaborative research that bridges molecular biology, engineering, and medicine to address complex challenges in cardiovascular health. He is particularly motivated by the opportunity to develop technologies that make therapies more precise, effective, and accessible for patients. Through the Iowa Innovation Leadership Fellowship, Aidan hopes to deepen his understanding of translational science and commercialization while learning from innovators across disciplines.
