Alireza Salimi's passion for innovation is rooted in a desire to ensure that scientific discoveries extend beyond the laboratory to improve patients' lives. As a Ph.D. candidate in the Molecular Medicine Program at the University of Iowa, he conducts research in the Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences, where he develops regenerative and nanotechnology-enabled approaches to treat glaucoma and other vision-threatening diseases. His research builds on previous work in stem cell therapies, RNA nanotechnology, bioinformatics, and molecular biology, reflecting a longstanding commitment to advancing translational medicine. Beyond the bench, Alireza is driven by the challenge of moving promising discoveries through intellectual property, regulatory pathways, and commercialization so they can reach the people who need them most. Through the Iowa Innovation Leadership Fellowship, he hopes to strengthen the skills needed to bridge scientific discovery and clinical application while preparing for a career developing transformative regenerative therapies that improve outcomes for patients worldwide.
