The Carver College of Medicine GAP Fund has awarded a total of $85,000 to five faculty and staff teams to advance the development of innovative medical devices and health software.
George Weiner, Professor of Internal Medicine-Hematology, Oncology, and Blood and Marrow Transplantation, and Greg Kirkpatrick, a third-year Fellow in the Department of Internal Medicine, received $10,000 to develop a novel immunostimulatory with potential applications in cancer treatment and vaccine development.
Martha Carvour, Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine-Infectious Diseases, and Fatima Toor, Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Chair in Laser Engineering, received $15,000 to support the development of a point-of-care sensor device for diabetic foot infections.
Ashley Cooney, Research Assistant Professor, Pediatrics, and Christine Sindt, Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, received $15,000 to support the advancement of a pulmonary surfactant eye drop.
Kristi Thiel, Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and James Byrne, Assistant Professor of Radiation Oncology, received $35,000 to advance a local delivery device for uterine endometrial cancer.
Edward Linton, Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, and Chris Sales, Associate Professor of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, received $10,000 to advance the development of a wearable device that enhances blinking in individuals with blink disorders.
